Change takes time.

Often clients expect instant results- and why wouldn’t they? In this era of western medicine, we are constantly told we “just need a pill” or a surgery that will “fix it for good.” The reality is, our body’s condition and our resulting health or disease are based on our daily and lifetime habits. Even if symptoms seem to appear all at once, often there is a long string of events that caused damage and wear on that part of the body, and only the most recent occurrence was “the straw that broke the camel’s back.” The human body is designed to compensate, and it will heal asymmetrically (read: just plain wrong) if it thinks it’s the only option. Imagine a broken bone not receiving proper timely treatment. The bone will fuse back together, even if it’s a 90 degree angle in the wrong direction. The body rarely discriminates, it just heals as it can, with the resources it has available.

Ultimately YOU determine your healing speed.

Behavior and habits play a HUGE role in healing. As we work together, I’ll do my best to point out asymmetrical behaviors and postures I notice as we interact in the office, but I’m only one person and I usually see my clients between 2-4 times per month for less than an hour each session. That’s not a lot of time! It’s more helpful to pay attention to your own habits- are you sitting with one leg curled underneath you? Do you tend to favor one side of the couch, the bed, or lean on one arm while driving, sitting at a desk or relaxing? It’s not so much the big falls and injuries that get us- those bring to our attention the need to modify our habits and accommodate for injured areas. When we roll an ankle or bruise ribs we feel the pain when we walk or bend and modify our posture accordingly. Unfortunately it’s the little habits that add up. You may have had a couple or even a dozen big injuries in your lifetime, but how many hours have you been sitting with your leg curled, or leaning on your left arm while you mouse with your right hand, or leaning your left elbow on the door of your car while you drive? When you start to examine those little habits, they really start to add up. If you want the very best for your body- if you want to heal and stay well, it’s time to be as symmetrical (as even) as possible. Sit up straight in your chair, carry your bag equally on each shoulder (balance a grocery load, or switch off which shoulder carries your purse or daily bag). The more even you can be, the more balanced you will wear out your body. Think of a car’s tires- we rotate them periodically to keep from wearing unevenly. I’d like you to do the same thing for your body, which you cannot merely rotate or replace. You only get one body, so take the best care of it you can! This is how you can achieve the very best (and fastest!) results.

I practice the “Permission Based Method”

This means I will never push your body past your comfort zone. I practice out of one room on purpose- so I can focus my entire attention on you the client the entire time. While other offices have high volume and a large turnover of clients, my intent is to create a comfortable environment where you feel safe to relax and really let yourself release tensions and old injuries. Clients at my clinic tend to be repeat customers because we have developed a relationship beyond that of occasional doctor and patient. “Permission Based” means that if your body is feeling too stiff for a certain adjustment or move on a given day, we skip it. Often I have alternative methods to release tension and adhesions in a different way. My goal is for you to leave feeling even better and more relaxed than you did when you arrived. If any part of the session feels uncomfortable to you, please let me know so we can stop or change methods immediately. Your comfort and relaxation are my utmost priority.

My sessions are longer than most for a reason

At Boulder Women’s Chiropractic, the average session lasts 30 minutes, with many clients opting for 45 minutes. These sessions include a blend of Chiropractic adjustments, Massage therapy, Craniosacral therapy, Reiki, posture and habit suggestions and more, depending on your needs for that day. In my experience, a shorter session doesn’t allow the body to relax, resulting in more force being needed to deliver an adjustment. After working in that model for several years, I’ve decided to allow my client’s muscles to unwind gently, resulting in a better adjustment using significantly less intensity/force. Depending on how tight and stiff your body is, you may not be able to fully relax for the best chiropractic adjustment in only 15 minutes. Many clients report the longer blended sessions allow them to need care less often, since they are getting more “taken care of” on each visit. Several clients comment it is the “best session they have ever experienced.” To learn more about what makes my style of Chiropractic truly different, feel free to click the button below.
